Caring for your Rims/Mags.

So you're cleaning your tires. Might as well clean those rims.

What you'll need.

  • Water
  • A Rough Sponge
  • A Set of Brushes
  • Detailing spray or wax

  • Start by wetting them and going over them with a soapy sponge. This will remove most dirt. Follow up by using fine soft brushes to get into the harder to reach areas. You may need to use a break dust cleaning solution to get rid of caked on mess. Don't let it sit too long on your valve stems or other plastic parts as some are acidic and can damage those parts. Also follow the products instructions. Keep your brush well cleaned with soapy water. Use more than is recommended for the soap water mixture. Once the rim is shinny what can be done to keep it shinning is to apply a bit of wax to the inside and outside of the rim and wipe it down.

As I mentioned in the Tires section its a good idea to remove your wheels in order to inspect them. It also allows you to clean the inside of the rim. In there you will find a big mess. You will want to apply a degreaser and scrub with a coarse plastic brush. that will get the most dirt off. Otherwise you can go with milder product but it will take you longer.

Since your wheels are off the car might as well clean your wheel well. Use a plastic detailing product to make the inside shine. On top of looking good this will prevent snow from accumulating there in our disastrous winters.
